Eat. Stay. Do. San Francisco.
My research of places to eat in San Fran
was very limited, a quick scour of a Time Out guide and a quick Google search
was all I had time for before I got there.
On the first day we ate in what turned out
to be the best Italian I’ve ever had, no joke. The arancini balls from Pizzeria
Delfina were by far the best thing I ate on the whole trip. There normally is a large queue to
eat here so it’s worth getting in early and eating outside on the street made
the whole experience more authentic.
For burgers there was lots to choose from,
Gott’s Roadside was casual burger bar near the piers. The stand out though was
In and Out burger which is everywhere in California, if you go, get the ‘Animal
Style burger’ from their not so secret menu. One final place I’d recommend was
Mr Homles Bakehouse, which was were I got the most amazing sausage roll and
amazing pastries and is worth a visit alone to get an Instagram of their famous
signs.
We ended up staying in The Good Hotel,
which was fairly central and close by to the main shopping areas. In terms of
hotels it was pretty average, but the sheets were clean, they had wifi and
there was a pool, which was very welcome. I found it hard to find any Air BNBs
in central San Francisco, so a hotel was the next best alternative.
If you are visiting San Fran I’d say you
could do everything in two days, I was there for four and that was a little too
long. The stand out place I visited was the Golden Gate bridge, its immense
size and history really hits you when your on it. We ended up walking the whole
length, which is pretty tiring but definitely worth it in the end. On the
bridge you get a great view of the city and the famous Alcatraz prison, which
get booked up month in advance if you are planning a tour.
The painted ladies are a must, if your
there you might as well take a break in Alamo Square Park which overlooks them.
I’d compare San Francisco to Brighton if
you’re from the UK, it has a friendly, Boho feel to it. The shopping areas are
spread over the city but I found the majority of shops very similar to what we
already have in the UK, so not a major shopping destination.
